A&P practicals

Those who have taken the course, do you have any tips? We will only have 2 over the semester & I know they will be diffcult!

If you're willing to make the effort - make your own flashcards with the images from your text. Taking the time to make them helped me learn the material, and I got A's on all of my practicals. Take pictures of the lab models with your cell phone, print them out at home, and STUDY them. My teacher encouraged it. If you're working with a cat, there are some really good YouTube videos out there, too.

If it's A&P I, your first practical will likely cover things like tissues, directional terms, osmosis/diffusion, bones & markings, parts of the cell, and phases of mitosis. It all depends on what you have covered in your lab though. I know some people had muscles on their first practical. At my school, it was on the second. Here are some things I used to study for lab:

This site has great practice practicals to quiz yourself on:

There is a great book called The Home Lab that has labeled photos of every model you encounter in A&P I and II. I think I paid less than 10 dollars for it on Amazon. Worth every penny. My lab partner used to take photos of all the models and print them out and label them, that works as well.

http://www.purposegames.com is also a great resource. They have loads of A&P labeling games to practice with, just search for what you need.

Also, my textbook came with an atlas, I found that very helpful for lab. Also, if you use masteringA&P and you have an iPad, Pearson has an AMAZING app that has loads of photos of all the histology, cat dissections, and models, you can set up practice practicals and quizzes and it's just invaluable. The price of the code was worth it just for the app, IMO.

For dissections (and some models as well), I found YouTube to be very helpful. There are many vids that will do a walkthrough and name each part as they go. That was really helpful for me as our dissection time was fairly limited.

Thank you!! Yes our first practical does not include muscles thank goodness! We just started learning the axial bones so I am feeling a bit anxious.
