Thinking about applying to a local Veterans Nursing home RN position. I know nurses in VA hospitals, but not in nursing homes. Anyone have any insights to being employed there? Patient ratios and turn over? Benefits? Just would like to better inform myself before submit my application.

I've never worked in one but I would imagine that the difference between a regular LTC and a VA LTC would be the population, you would have all war veterans. I have always and will always have absolute utmost respect for our men and women of the United State's military.

I was a valor student at the va here and was offered a position full time in the clc- (community living center). I worked there a week now and it's not terrible, not my thing though. They have (when fully staffed) a really great nurse/patient ratio, like 5-6/1 and lots of CNA help too. It pays well and the benefits are unmatched. If you wanna go for it then do! Good luck!
