I am a new graduate RN and have two upcoming "phone screenings" (interview? informal pre-interview? Still not entirely sure what this means) for two med/surg units at BSA Healthcare in Amarillo, TX. They called me the morning after I sent in my application with a generic cover letter....something that doesn't happen to often in the new grad RN job market, I'm sure we all know. I couldn't help but think "there has to be a catch to this."

I have not found much information about the nursing experience at BSA Healthcare, much less the new grad RN experience. While I am willing to relocate for almost any new grad position at this point (I live in CA), I would like to get a little more info on what I may potentially be getting myself into. Have any of you guys either worked for BSA Healthcare and/or can provide insight on what it is like to work here? Any info would be HUGELY appreciated.

Would like to know working conditions for RNs at BSA in Amarillo and average pay with 10 years experience?

BSA used to be a non-profit hospital and is now for-profit. They weigh very heavily on patient satisfaction scores and it is very apparent for nurses who work there.

They are also hurting for nurses very badly. Many nurses that used to work there have quit their jobs, they are calling people that used to work there years ago to see if they will come work for them again, offering 5 year sign on bonuses etc.

The other major hospital in Amarillo, Northwest Texas Hospital is the same as far as they are hurting for nurses in their Med/Surg units.

They cannot seem to keep a nurse in those units. Northwest is also trying to achieve Magnet status so they are very interested in hiring BSN over ADN hence the $2/hr pay difference.

New grad pay in Amarillo is pretty poor. BSA offers around $21/hr base.

Northwest offers $20.81/hr for ADN new grad and $22.81 for BSN new grad not including differentials.

I am not sure about experienced nursing, however I do know that Northwest is offering 10k sign on bonus for 5-year contract for experienced nurses who will work in med/surg.
