Fluids and electrolytes advice

I'm in my 2nd semester of nursing school and we begin fluid, electrolytes and IVs on Monday. Can anyone give me advice on how to better understand the fluid and electrolytes because I've been reading my medsurg book but still haven't grasp the important details. Thx
