I attended a university in the late 90s/early 2000's. Because of mental health reasons, I did poorly. I did not get help during the time I went to school. It was only years after quitting school, after my mental problems kept getting worse and worse, and I hit rock bottom, that I got help. I am in counseling and on medication, doing well, and ready to go back to school.

I have a 1.86 average for my previous schoolwork. I need a 2.0. I am going to appeal, but do you think the fact that I didn't get help during the time I attended school will count against me?

I have no idea. It really depends on the school. Because I reenrolled at the same school they counted all my classes I had taken in the late 90's. I have no idea how it will go with financial aid. But with trying to get into nursing school I would talk to an advisor and see what they have to say. All programs are different but federal financial aid is standard across the board.

I'm sure that every school is different, but I don't think waiting counts against you. After some mistakes, I had a 1.93 gpa at a CC here, and I just stopped going. After a few years when I decided to go back, I appealed to get my fin aid back. My reasons were my work schedule and daycare. I was approved. You'll be fine. Good luck!

I say it's worth appealing, and seeing what happens. Make your case, and hope for the best.
