Should I become a cna if I don't get accepted into the lpn program?

Should I become a cna if I don't get accepted into the lpn/rn program at Ivy Tech-Northwest. Do you think it could jumpstart my career in the nursing field. I do want to earn my rn license, one day in my life. I really want to start off small so I know what I am getting into. I really need personal opinion... harsh or nice.

I like to change my mind on majors, like for example I do like psychology so would nursing still be good for me?

I thought about going the CNA route as well for experience, bf applying to nursing school. My husband, however, who is in the medical field, discouraged me. His experience was that CNAs are expected to clean up after patients and do the "dirty work" that the nurses don't want to do. And, unfortunately, nurses don't respect them very much (again, his observations). The pay isn't great, and I would never have the responsibilities that a RN would have. He was worried that I would get burnt out before I even completed my RN degree. I suppose not a bad way to get your foot in the door, as long as you keep in mind that it won't be like that forever, should you decide to pursue RN. Any way you could shadow someone at a local hospital or AL facility?

Finally, nursing is a great profession if you enjoy psychology. Lots of human interaction there, right? And there are so many different avenues to explore. So, if you get "bored" being a "nurse," look into another specialty. The options are pratically limitless for an RN. Good Luck!!

Wait, what are you right now? Are you a PCT?
