I am currently finishing up my prereqs to apply to a BSN program. Thus far I took Biology 2 years ago now, Anatomy Spring semester, and I am registered for Physiology for Fall, what I am wondering is if I would benefit from any sort of order in these classes. I have to take Micro which I wish I had taken right after Biology but the school i was attending at that time did not require Micro so here I am needing that. I also need to take Pathophysiology which I am wondering if I should take next semester right after Phys. Finally have my Nutrition class that I am taking this semester and I will be needing to finish 2 Chem classes. I guess my worry is forgetting info, I figure pathophys is basically an extension of phys so i should take them consecutively,etc. Does anyone have any insight they would like to share here?? Oh and I am needing Critical Thinking Communications as well. Or am I seriously OVERTHINKING it all?? Thanks in advance!

it does help to take physiology soon after taking anatomy and pathophysiology soon after physiology. it would help to take micro soon after biology but that really isn't a viable option for you. i don't think it is anything to worry about much. the physiology will refresh many of the relevent parts of the biology. also, you will get some synergy between physiology and microbiology and the chemistries - whichever you take first will help with the others.

i don't think you are over thinking it but i don't have enough information to help you very much. is critical thinking com one class or is it a critical thinking class and a com class? how many credits in each class? do all of the science classes have a lab component? does your school accept students once per year or more often? if once per year then which term? how much does it matter that you finish as soon as possible? do you generally get acceptable grades with a heavy school load - and are you planning about the same amount of obligations outside of school? are there any bottle necks (for example, micro is extremely hard to get into at my school and upper classmen don't get to sign up early - so i would take that you whenever i could get it)?

since i may not be checking back soon.... here is what i would plan with best guesses at the answers to the questions above:

fall ’12: physiology, chem

spring ’13: patho, chem, critical thinking (or either of the other terms depending on which sci classes are considered toughest at your school).

fall ’13: micro, nutrition, com

or

fall '12: physiology, chem, nutrition, com

spring '12: patho, chem, micro (three labs is a heavy load but doable if you don't have too much else on your plate and work smart (well, and probably also work hard)).

You would probably have had an easier time in a&p if you had taken your chem first. Same with pathophys. It's a moot point now though and as long as you are doing fine in your classes then it doesn't really matter. I am surprised you didn't have to do the chem to get into a&p, that is how it is at most schools I have looked at. Micro is different so it doesn't really matter when you take it. taking your pathophys after phys would prob be great, altho it would also be great if you had the chem under your belt. Yup, probably overthinking it at this point!
