Greetings everyone. I am planning on relocating to Atlanta in September. I have never been to Atlanta, and plan to visit before making my final decision. I have already applied for licensure by endorsement and am currently waiting. I am moving from Florida, and have 3 yrs as an RN and 2 of those years taking care of surgical/trauma icu patients. I am looking to work at Grady for the experience. Any suggestions on where to live? What are housing costs? I would appreciate any helpful information, thanks!

i am in the same predicament as you but i only have a little over a year experience working on a medical surgical ortho/telemetry floor. i recently got my license by endorsement (applied on jun9th got it on june 28th) which to me is awesome but i do not have a job yet. i currently still live in indiana and i am hoping to relocate in october. i heard savannah was a great place to live and the housing and schooling there is great if you have kids. have you gotten the Job at grady?

Go to City Search or similar web sites for info. on ATL. As far as costs...I lived in Florida in the past, now live in Ga. There is little difference in cost of living except wages and jobs were much more plentiful in Florida......Ga. is notoriously low so those coming from outside are in for a bit of a shock depending..it also seems to take much longer to find work here. Car insurance and car tags are "crazy" high compared to Florida but, if you live in or around ATL you will have more choices for work. It's a crowded, traffic ridden area but overall ATL isn't bad -

I lived in Atlanta for almost 8 years and I experience almost the opposite. The cost of living and wages in GA is lower, but my car insurance and registration went up a lot when I moved to Florida 3 years ago. Yes the pay is great in Florida, but for me, finding a job in FL is much more difficult than in Atlanta. I live in South FL and have been out of work several months because I haven't been able to find anything. Even signing up with the agencies is like pulling teeth down here! I am moving back to GA by the end of this year because I have more success with jobs there in Atlanta.

As far as where to live, I would stay north of interstate 20 and closer to the city if you can afford it. Atlanta has undergone a transformation of its city and they have moved a lot of the 'inner city riffraff' out to the southern, eastern, and western suburbs. Also, I worked at Grady for 6 years and despite all the madness you may hear, it is a great place to work. Congrats to you if you land a job there. I have worked in 4 different states and there has been no place like Grady. If you can make it there, you can work anywhere!!
