I'm in my second semester of first year and still on holidays but i wanted to know just the general stuff we need to know for Pharmacology so i could do some reading before the semester begins. any information will be greatly appreciated.

Look into either Pharmacology Demystified (a great book that i picked up for class, and it really lays out EVERYTHING)

also you could look into the "Made incredibly easy series" i ordered the pharm book, but haven't received it yet so i can't comment on how good it is with everything...

I'm 3 weeks into my pharm class, and yes its hard, but i really love the material, you really want to get in as much reading as possible because there is A LOT of material to cover!!!

personally i love the reviews and rationaled series. :)

brush up on your algebra, because in a lot of pharmacology classes that's where you'll be learning and practicing what is popularly called "med math," how to calculate drug and fluid dosing and administration.

I'm not sure of your learning style--personally mine varies upon the information. Pharm is just a LOT of memorization. It's the only class so far that I've made notecards for! And I made a TON of notecards. This helped me a great deal. What helped me was to really, really know the autonomic and somatic nervous systems and the neurotransmitters and receptors involved. If you know that, you will know where the action of some of the drugs are (alpha1 blockers, beta2 blockers, etc.). That is where I think I struggled the most with the class--remembering where those drugs have action!
