Is anyone still filling out forms by hand? We have so much paperwork. I can't even imagine how many trees we go through. It's not only that filling forms out by hand is tedious we have to make copies of nearly everything often 2 copies and send to the main office. Our organization is approaching 2000 patients. Just wondering if others are experiencing the same frustrations. I would think that at least if things were computerized everyone could look at the same form at the push of a button versus digging out client charts from a virtual warehouse. Any thoughts?

We do computerized charting as well as paper charting. I find paperwork charting on admission much quicker than computerized. All consents, billing paperwork and such are still paperwork.

Pros-

It is nice to be able to check on recert due dates, look at other nurses notes if your covering, review orders etc

Cons-

I feel like i am spending more time on the computer than on the patient if that makes since

A printed OASIS is 47 pages vs what 28ish?

My company does all insurances and often times they want copies of all notes. Still killing trees.

our agency has over 7000 patients, still doing old school paper charting too! nothing for the field nurses is computerized.

Wow! 7000 patients and still old school. What state are you in?

Wow! 7000 patients and no computerization. You must be up to your ears in papers. What state are you in? Are the patients all within one state or multi-state?

I am fine with paper charting. An acquaintance does computer/PDA charting for more than one agency and tells me that it is a PITA. I watch her sometimes working on her charting and have to agree. Furthermore, it is more difficult for a third party to alter paper charting, one less thing to be concerned with.

Everything at my job is on paper, though the visit team is starting to use tablets. I'm on the private duty team, and I sometimes feel like I'm drowning in paperwork.

We are in the process of going paperless, but the agency does not supply tablets or laptops for field nurses, so I have to do charting when I get home.

I'm a field nurse and everything is on paper - addendums,narc sheets(multiple),nn,care plan...all of it!
