I am an RN and may have an opportunity to become an office manager of a new physicians office. It is part of our big hospital where I am already employed so I'm pretty sure that I will have some negotiating power as far as salary. I feel like this is right up my alley. I have management experience, know the ins and outs of nursing, and feel that I truly can be an asset to their new office. My concern is that I don't know anything about billing, insurance, payroll, etc etc etc. Although I'm a quick learner is it reasonable to think I can do this? Anyone out there an RN/Office Manager?

I did this prior to my RN, but after my other career :)

It's all together different. I walked in off the street and interviewed and got the job due to my prior business experience. Also helped that "the wife" of the practice owner was a corporate gal, like me. I looked for, and found this job as something for health insurance and income while I did my career change. I went to school at night.

I guess, if you've never done anything like this, they will expect to have to train you. Myself, I worked closely with the practice owner, and trouble-shot(?) and self-taught a lot.

Depending on the size of the office, they may have a separate person to do insurance coding, billing and payroll. I would go ahead and interview. Take it one step at a time. Good luck.
