Does anyone have any information about the cost of the LPN program at the Ohio Medical Career Center? I am looking into it, I've been on the waiting list at Sinclair, and I know its the cheapest, but honestly, I am sick of waiting! I'm ready to get going with my work! If this is a bad program then I will continue to wait. The website gives almost no information, so I have no clue about costs or much about the program at all. Obviously I know the difference between going to Sinclair and getting my associates vs doing an LPN and then transfering to finish my associates. I guess I'm just torn and trying to figure out the best move to make. All of these waitlists, different colleges with different costs, pre-req's, ect. just has me more and more confused. Just trying to figure it all out. If anyone can answer any of my questions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if my pre-req's would transfer or if I would be forced to retake some classes, like I've been told at other colleges like Hondros. Any information would be a big help. Thank you.

Look at the WIA / TRA / TAA training provider list for that county. Or Google for your state's One Stop site or workforce development site. Those schools on the provider list have to tally up a total cost with books, uniforms, supplies, and tuition and other expenses like the background checks, etc. If that is not published online, somebody at the local One Stop (unemployment office) either has that data or they can find out. That is, if that particular school is on the training provider list, and most LPN programs are. Those training provider lists also used to publish quarterly or annual wages for the recent grads, too, all in the details of that program's listing on the training provider list.

I'm in PA, and the school I just looked up is Ohio, but each state should have a similar training provider list because most of the retraining money is at least partially federal funding and thus there are standards for record-keeping and for data-collection for effectiveness of the program. If a school is across a state line, it's possible to have it added to your state's provider list, for you TRA/TAA people, but it takes a lot of time in some cases and they may not get it done before you need to start your classes.

If its not too late, turn and run as far as possible from this school. Either wait and go to Sinclair or go somewhere else. Honestly, I wish I would've listened to my gut and gone somewhere else.

As of now, the total cost of tuition is $11,000. Add in textbook costs and lab fees and the total cost of the program is $14,834. This does not include the NCLEX application fee or the exam fee which is $275 total. Before starting their program you must also have a medical terminology course under your belt and pass the LPN entrance exam (1st attempt is free). If you take the MT course that is offered at the center it is $180. You must also pay an application fee of $65 and have an active CPR card. If you don't have a CPR card, they offer a 1 day course which costs $45. Last but not least, you have to pay for your own FBI & BCI fingerprint background check which can be done at the driver's license bureau. Well, I hope this helped. I just got an information packet today and I'm still thinking about starting. Let me know if you have any questions.

A close friend of mine was thinking about attending OMCC's LPN program so I called them with three simple questions. Three simple questions that should be asked of ANY LPN school:

1. Does OMCC have any maturation agreements with any R.N. programs?

The girl who answered the phone stated "no, we are our own school".

2. Is OMCC's LPN program NLN accredited?

The girl who answered the phone stated "yes, yes we are" -but I could find no evidence of this on the NLN website.

3. What is OMCC's pass rate on the NCLEX?

I was placed on hold and sebesquently disconnected.

I smell a waste of time and money.....

I read about your experience with OMCC on Allnurses forum. We are very sorry about your negative experience - Admissions Office recently hired new staff who are not yet familiar with the programs to answer your questions informatively and accurately. These issues will definitely be addressed during staff meetings to ensure similar events do not occur in the future.

To answer your questions:

1. Cost of the 40-week LPN program is $14899, which includes tuition, lab fee, and textbooks. Cost for the prerequisite 2-week STNA class is $558.55 and $180 for medical terminology. Therefore total cost is $15639, which is considerably cheaper than similar programs offered in the Dayton area. Our nursing program has received full, unconditional approval from the Ohio Board of Nursing.

2. OMCC graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam and become an LPN upon passing the licensing examination. Many OMCC graduates are enrolled in the RN programs at Sinclair Community College, Wright State University, and Clark State Community College. In addition, OMCC now offers an RN program, also recognized and approved by Ohio Board of Nursing, where OMCC PN graduates may enroll directly without taking entrance exam.

3. I do not have up-to-date information on our institutional NCLEX performance. Please contact our Nursing Program Director, at ======== for more information. She will also answer all questions you may have about the nursing curriculum, NCLEX statistics, and job placement opportunities. 4. OMCC nursing program is not NLNAC accredited yet. This is because the program is relatively new and has not reached the 5-yr period mandated by the Commission. However, we have a solid reputation in the community, as evidenced by feedback from local hospitals and healthcare agencies. Our curriculum emphasizes heavily on hands-on skills practice which benefit graduates immensely when they enter the workforce.

We realize OMCC is not as well-known as Sinclair, Clark State, Fortis, or Hondros College, and that many applicants have reservations about colleges that they haven't heard of before. OMCC is small, but thanks to its small size, students enjoy undivided attention from instructors, abundant time to practice skills, and minimal bureaucratic quagmire seen in larger schools. Many OMCC graduates are currently working at Miami Valley Hospital, Kettering Medical Center, and Reid Hospital in Indiana, others in nursing homes and home care agencies throughout the region.
