Littmann Master Classic vs. Classic II S.E. (X-post from Student forum)

Well, after one semester, I've decided I hate my Littmann Lightweight and I'm in the market for an upgrade. I know the Master Classic has more features, but as far as acoustics, does anyone know if it is equal to the Classic 2? I'm willing to pay the extra $20 or so for the Master Classic, but not if the only extra feature is the tunable diaphragm, it's not that big of a deal to turn it over. I plan on getting a Master Cardiology when I graduate anyway (wish I could afford it now!), so that'll be 3 stethoscopes in 2 years  ! So, owners of the Master Classic and Classic 2, please weigh in with opinions on your stethoscopes! Thanks!

I started with a cardiology III the able to hear and pick up different lung sounds compared to the run of the mill scope was excellent. When I worked last year in a ER in CT i had the chance to use a master cardiology and it was 1000 times better, the sounds and murmers that you are able to pick up is amazing. In my own personal opinion there is no comparison between the II and the master. the master wins. I personally own the Black edition Master cardiology i was able to purchase it for around $200 but it was a great investment.

I've seen some places on line offer the Master Cardiology for around $159.

I have used a Master Classic for years in my paramedic position. I found that it had good acoustics in the ambient noise found in EMS. Once I graduated from Nursing School, I got myself a Cardiology III. Liked it alot but thought I could hear even better with a Master Cardiology so I picked up one of those. After a few months I switched back to the Cardiology III, I found the acoustics acceptable and it has the smaller diaphragm side which is useful for the pediatric cases we see so frequently in the ED. Try http://www.reddingmedical.com they have some of the best prices on Littmann's I've seen. If you're going to spend $70 on a Master Classic, might as well bite the bullet and get the Cardiology III, I picked mine up there for about $118.

Good luck.
