Hi all! My name is Gabriel. This is my very first day spending some time on allnurses.com.

I recently applied to the nursing program at the local junior college. Pre -reqs are done, and now I play the waiting game.

I'm interested in finding, and applying to, programs at OTHER colleges. Can you help??

I am located way up in Northern California. I'm interested in border state schools, ideally ( Oregon, Nevada, Arizona ). But Kansas and New York are other locations that I'm open to.

I hope you find the right school. I am not sure how far up in Cali you are. If you are in the Bay Area, I will recommend Gurnick. I just started in January, and had checked out a lot of other schools. What I can say is that it is in a small and intimate setting so you get a lot of personal attention from your instructors. Much better feeling than a large institution, especially if you are going to move away from home. A lot of my classmates get together and have potlucks and study together.

Also, I was able to request weekend clinicals since I will have a chance to make enough $$$$ during the week if you know what I mean. The bay area can be expen$ive.

If you are located in the Bay Area, then you can apply to community colleges in the east and south bay. Chabot Community College, Ohlone Community College, De Anza Community College and City College are all great schools with very good nursing programs.

There is an Accelerated program that is an online BSN program out of Nevada. Do you have a degree?

I will look through my old e-mail's for the name of the school. I know it's starts with an "O" I know it's like orbits or something of that nature. I'll let you know once I find it. There is also another online BSN that is called western governors university www.wgu.edu they have programs that are based in Utah and they just recently adapted a program in the Los Angeles area in CA. You can view their region location on the main site under the health field.

I must confess, I am REALLY uninformed about the next step(s) in my nursing school future.

I have a BA in Art from a CSU school. Two years ago, I decided to get a fresh start, and completed the three science prereqs for the Nursing program at the local Junior College. I recently applied to the program, but, it's possible I'll be on a wait list...

So, I am JUST NOW beginning to look around for other options. I'm realizing that I don't have the first clue what most people are talking about in these forums! ( e.g. Accelerated Program? etc. etc. )

In fact, I may start a new thread, stating what I just described.

Accelerated are BSN programs that are faster pace, but shorter in duration. They are only offered for students who already have a degree. Which you qualify for!

I'm confused, now. I'll look into this accelerated program, BUT, how can one get a Nursing degree from an online school?

By the way, do you know anything about SOUTH University? I put feelers out about nursing schools, and this school contacted me....

From what I have heard about the online nursing programs; you do a lot of your lecture and textbook learning mainly online and you have to do your clinicals with that particular schools contracted hospital. For example, at Western Governors University you do most of the eductaion and theory on your own, then you are assigned a nurse educator that assist with your clinicals at the hospital. The selection of where you do your clinical might be limited based on the hospital contracts, but you are able to sit for the NCLEX exam.

Oh, and I forgot I haven't heard of South university (sorry)
