Moving to Tennessee!!

I'm moving to Chattanooga and just wanted to say "Hi". I'll be working back in a Rehab unit, after years of Long Term Care, and I am looking forward to both the new job, and living in TN. Been travel nursing for the last few years, and sure missed the friendships from a permanent position. Being the traveler is lonely... Any nurses from Chattanooga, or Parkridge Medical Center out there?

Welcome, Mt Gypsy! I live in the Scenic City & work for the teaching hospital in town.

I grew up in Chattanooga. I work in Harriman now. Was an ER nurse until latex side lined me.

I did agency around Chatt and loved doing the hospice thing.

I have a friend named Natalie who works the psych ward at Parkridge. In fact my mom worked in central supply for parkridge for 10 yrs when I was a kid. Roamed those halls many times. I saw that they have added quite a large addition.

eltrip, i bet the teaching hospital you are talkin' bout is Erlanger. That is where I had my brain surgery in May of 96.

Hello, Im a travelor that is looking to find a permanent or semi-permanent position and yes traveling is lonely.. I have been thinking very hard about Chattanooga area. Can you fill me in on the area hospitals and maybe some agencies around the area that I can get my feet wet. Im an ER nurse and have interviewed via phone at Erlanger a couple days ago. Any info about the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sara

Hey soupy2u! I presently work in Erlanger. I thought about transferring myself to the ER cause they desperately need help. I love where I'm working at now(cssu). I've also worked at Parkridge, but they always seemed under staff. I worked there on the csdu. Hated it. I'v never worked agency, but I'm sure you can go under the yellow pages and get numbers to fax resume. Another hospital is Memorial Hospital. It's one of those catholic hospitals. Their Er is busy also. People go there and do not have to wait as long in that ER compared to erlanger. The payscale might keep you from accepting a permanent position. Best wishes!

Hello tariqmomma,

My daughter is a student at UTC and was a patient at Erlanger in TICU a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with the staff there.

Parkridge Medical Center is a great place. I had my son born there in 94 and they have upgraded the hospital alot since then. Y ou may want to go to erlanger.org or you can go to hcahealthcare.com and click on the state tennessee and it will come up as a list of hca hospitals in tennessee and you will find what you are lookin' 4.

I hope you have good fortune in Chattanooga. As far as direct patient care, I personally don't like most of the hca hospitals because as someone already pointed out, you work understaffed. If you get tired of the hca hospitals and the small town feel of Chattanooga, come on to Nashville. This is definitely a health care town with a lot of alternatives to hospitals. Of course, corporate hca is here.

Thanks for all your help. It can be difficult to go to an area you know little about but with all your input it truly helps.. Looking forward to coming to TN.

Yes, you're correct! I just noticed this post after a very long hiatus from allnurses...birthed a baby at erlanger in January. It's been a very busy year!

I've been here for >6 years & have no desire to work elsewhere. I did my year in purgatory at an HCA facility in the area (after working at Vandy for many years) and have decided that teaching hospitals are the only place I want to work.

I'm moving to downtown Nashville first week of December. I'm a med/surg registry RN from So Cal and it doesn't look like there are a lot of jobs available for RN's, at least as far as the papers and classifieds go.

I may just end up staying with my registry and trying to catch a few shifts where I can. I'll be evry close to Vandy. Any suggestions on places to stay away from? Thanks y'all !!!!!

I don't currently live in Nashville..but I can't imagine their not being loads of vacant RN positions! lol

Shoot in Memphis they take you on a year before you graduate! I would check out the hospital's websites and just contact HR..I'm sure they'd LOVE to hear from you :)

It was funny I emailed a hospital to request more info for new grads..man were they excited. They sent me a really slick promotional piece with all these little brochures and even a CD about new grads. Plenty of jobs in TN for nurses for sure! Welcome!!
