Nurse Internships for Experienced Nurses

I've been a med surg nurse for close to two years now. I've been trying to apply in more critical areas (ICU, ER) because of the boredom I've been feeling on my floor and the desire to advance my career. However every reply, if I even get any, is there are more experienced nurses who have applied for the job. Then I started to search for nurse internships possibly in these more critical areas and only new grad internships come up. Any suggestions for how to search for experienced nurse internships so I can gain some experience and hopefully help my quest for skill advancement out?

Hi Aidenice,

First of all, I totally sympathise with your predicament. Have you considered doing an internship abroad? I spent some time volunteering with Projects Abroad Pro who offer internships specifically for people with qualifications or experience. I think you could probably qualify for one of their volunteer medical jobs in Mongolia and I'm pretty sure they also do a project in Peru.

Hope this helps.

Colly.

Thanks for the advice. I considered it but I have a young child and they would not let her and my boyfriend come with me so that kinda put those thoughts aside for now. But hey, if it comes down to it I may have to consider it more seriously!
