hai frnds, i am just wondering how many weeks need to prepare for nclex-rn exam....i wanna take my exam on january 1st week..how abt study plan?pls share your thoughts....thanks in advance...

i self reviewed for three months using these books:

illustrated study guide for nclex rn exam 6th ed (zerwekh)

davis nclex rn success 2nd ed (lagerquist) finished

saunders comprehensive review for nclex rn 3rd ed (silvestri) finished

mosby's pharmacology memory note cards (zerwekh) finished

prioritization, delegation & assignment (la charity) finished

i did 100 items a day for a month and read the rationales after answering, i made notes on questions that i got wrong and read them a week before my test, read my normal lab values, meds and common procedures before going to bed.

it depends on your schedule and yourself on how you learn things. my friend just prepared herself with only 2 weeks of self study and she passed the exam with only 75 questions...i envy her *sigh*

i my opinion, i think it's better if you take the exam before the year ends. the board will revise and update the questions next year (they do every 3 years) so there's a possibility that it will be harder....well if you study well then nothing will be hard for you :sstrs:

Hope this helps.

1.) First of all, set off a deadline for your study plan. Then make your study plan according to how you study. Be consistent on studying. Remember, your goal is to pass and you would do anything just to attain that goal.

2.) If you lack content, I suggest to read Saunders Comprehensive. Read all chapter and asnwer all questions at the end of the chapter. Read the rationales and understand it by heart. Also, take down notes on the strategies used in each question.

3.) While reading content, do 100 practice question a day on a CD ROM or on any CD's you have. I suggest that you practice answering questions around the time that your test date would be. If you are testing on 8AM, practice answering questions around 8AM. In that way, your mind gets used to what it will get on the day of the exam. Do this until the last 2 days before your test date. Don't get discouraged with your scores, it doesn't reflect how your gonna do in the exam. As the saying goes, "Practice makes permanent."

4.) Reading LaCharity PD&A book is a must (in my own opinion) since it tackles the common questions that comes out in the exam. The exam will have tons of prioritization, delegation and assignment situations. You need to know how to delegate tasks to the staff. The book is pretty hard, but still don't ever be discouraged on the scores you are getting. You'll be surprised how good you're doing.

5.) If you wanna learn more about strategies, get Kaplan Strategies. It's very helpful plus you can also answer questions in the CD.

6.) Practice your normal values. I encourage you to make flashcards.

7.) Memorize the Infection Control Precautions ( I suggest do the SPIDERMAN mnemonics).

8.) Know the common meds. Group them according to what they are used for. Taking notes on the meds suffixes will give you an idea what the medication is for. Know the common side effects, I'm not telling you to memorize all of it but think of the common ones like headache, GI discomfort, etc.

9.) Pray. Pray before starting your review or answering questions. Go to church every week or when you're available. God helps the people that help themselves. God sees that you're working hard to attain your goal and He would truly give you what you deserve.

10.) Pamper yourself 2 days before the exam. Treat yourself to a movie, a massage or a dinner with your friends. Don't tell them that your testing. Just tell the ones that supports you the most.

On your testing date, write these words on your erasable notepad.

I can do this! Your name with RN in bold capital letters. When your feeling doubtful on how you are answering questions, call His name and ask for guidance. Read the encouraging words you wrote in your notepad.
