Hello,

I am a freshman in college interested in getting my MSN. I came to my school under the impression that I could continue with this goal even though there is no nursing program Right now my major is "Clinical Biology," and I am wondering if this will end up hurting me in the long run. Most of the students who graduate with this degree go on to medical school or PA school, but I would not like to do either of those.

I'm thinking about transferring, but I don't know which route to take, or if I even need to transfer. Should I go to a technical school, get my associate's in nursing, work in a hospital while I attempt to get my BSN, and then go on to get my MSN? Should I transfer to a school that has a BSN program and go from there? Or should I continue on with my Clinical Biology degree and then attempt to get my MSN?

I am completely lost about which path I need to take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked into schools in your area that have transfer programs? Many schools that offer BSNs (sounds like yours doesn't) have options for people who have done the first couple of pre-reqs for their BSN programs. There is also an option of getting your Bach. in clinical biology, and going to a school that offers a one year BSN program. Only offered to those who have a Bach already, and have the pre-reqs fulfilled. Your clinical biology degree must include chemistry, micro, anatomy and physiology and maybe even pathology? These are the usual basic science pre-reqs. Just maintain that GPA.

Some schools offer RN-MSN programs. You will do MSN level work in the same category as BSN requirements. What do you want to do with your MSN? If you know what you want to work in (Midwife, NP, administration, educator) that will inform your decision on what path to take.
