I am a new grad and hopefully will be getting a job on a Medical/renal floor. I was wondering what some common drugs for this type of floor would be.

The floor gets a lot of dialysis patients and kidney problems/infections, stroke and pneumonia patients.

epogen, ace inhibitors or beta blockers, phos-lo, cholesterol meds, insulin, antibiotics such as vanco or gentamycin. I guess the possibilities are endlesss, kidney failure has two huge top causes, hypertension and diabetes so you would see meds for those. Kidney problems can also be from CKD, lupus, infection, trauma, etc. Good Luck, sounds like a job that i would love!

For renal patients you cant forget Renagel and Kayexalate....

I don't start my job until April, so I am sorry I can't tell you what it's like.

But the unit looked nice

Paricalcitiol,renagel and tums with meals. Renal vitamins- don't have the fat soluble vitamins which can become toxic when not excreted by kidneys... antirejection drugs-combo of immunosuppressants, antiviral. Kidney transplants usually get Tacrolimus, Neoral, Sirolimus, methylprednisone, prednisone, Cellcept (mycophenolate). Darbepoetin. When the pt goes to dialysis you hold oral meds but can give pain meds...they will filter out through dialysis. I like working on the renal/urology floor at my hospital. I learn how to do peritoneal dialysis manual or with cyclor(automatic machine). It's a challenging floor. hope that helps these are from a list given to me during orietation.
