PICU internship

I'm in the runniing for a one year new graduate pediatric internship. I've worked peds before as an aid, but I don't quite know what this position includes. Does anyone work on a unit with this position? And any idea's for me to be one ahead of other applicants?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am not a PICU nurse, but I am a NICU nurse. I went through an internship for NICU almost 5 years ago. It was a 3 to 4 month program and it included some classroom time as well as time on the unit with a preceptor. Your internship will likely have classroom time as well and of course you will have a preceptor to teach you about PICU patients. There will be a lot to learn!!!!! After the internship is over you will be taking your own patients. You will be evaluated throughout the internship to see how you are doing.

The fact that you have experience as an aide in peds. will be very helpful. They will look at your letters of recommendation from instructors and your transcripts as well. I would recommend sending a thank you letter to the person who interviewed you as this will show that you are very interested in this opportunity.

Good Luck!!
