I read somewhere on this board that Ohio doesn't accept or are trying to do away ith accepting Excelsior Grads from taking the NCLEX. Does anyone know anything about this? I e-mailed the state board of nursing, but am still waiting for a reply. I live close enough to WVa to take the NCLEX there....does anyone know if you can transfer licensure from one state to another once you have your RN license?

I can give you the boards number if you want it as I live in the columbus area. I got my California license but had to fill out a bunch of paperwork. Each state varies. Let me know if you want to call the board as it might be quicker.

Call the State Board of Nursing in Ohio. Each

state has varying sets of rules about licensure.

I have never heard anything about Ohio, but who knows. I just get my info from the message board blabs. :)

call your board of nursing. I called , emailed and wrote a letter to the NEW JERSEY Board of Nursing and they sent me a letter asking me why I would even question it. Considering NY and NJ are almost the same. So they take Excelsior grads and they also said they have a high pass rate on the boards. Ill be starting Excelsior within a few weeks.

I understand there is a rumor mill about Excelsior grads having trouble with different states and the BON, but from my experience (working at a hospital) Excelsior nurses are some of the best. Also, several things to keep in mind...nursing has a shortage, when seeking endorsement for licensing, do states ask where you attended school? Do they just want to know if you have a current nursing license? I see nurses from traditional schools of nursing that are horrible nurses, so the BON is aware of how well most Excelsior nurses are, and they can function as well as a traditional nurse, if not better in some instances.

I really would like to know why the BON of nursing in certain states do not allow EC grads to take the NCLEX for their states... wouldn't you? Especially considering they know the same nurses will be granted endorsement to the same state, from other states where EC grads sit for the NCLEX. Maybe it is a ego thing for the BON....'we are a superior BON, so we only allow traditional nursing programs to sit for the NCLEX for XYZ state'. Just a thought.
