So When You're a New Grad......

and you're trying to find a job and you go in person to a facility, now common sense tells me that obviously if you're hoping for an interview on the spot, you have to bring your license, transcripts, etc. But what about things like letters of interest, references, etc? What all would you include when going to a facility, with the hopes of at least being able to speak with someone? I was always a stay at home mom, with the exception of the typical high school jobs, so I am little in the dark here.

I would bring reference letters if I have them. I have found that some places ask for interesting things, and it is best to have them all organized and prepared to submit, just in case.

I worked as soon as I got my license because the facility I worked at as an aide sponsored my education to become an LPN, thus, they were mandated to provide me with a job. However, I have applied and have worked for other agencies as side jobs. A recent agency I signed up for asked that I take three on line exams, take a urine toxicology test, PPD with results, and even asked for a copy of my college diploma. All at seperate times. I was really annoyed, but, saw that this is the way that it is. Make sure that you have all that you can. I am not saying that they will all ask for a urine toxicology, but many may ask for a physical, PPD results, inquire if you have had or that you want the Hepatitis B vaccine series (or sign a waiver saying that you understand that you are at risk), an updated BCLS card, resume and letter of reference or two. Hi,

I bring everything because you never know when you will get lucky and have an on the spot interview. I don't think you can ever be too prepared. I also usually wear business attire rather than my beloved scrubs. It just feels a little more professional to me. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted. Jules
