More Experience

I am a newly graduated LPN from MN. I have 2 job offers. One at an Emergent(urgent) care clinic and the other in the extended care department for the VA hospital. Just wondering which one to choose based on getting better experience. Let me know your suggestions. Thanks.

I would jump on the chance to work at the VA hospital. I have worked multiple shifts through the VA as an agency nurse and love the experience. It is difficult as an LPN to get a job in a hospital these days and even though it is not "med/surg" experience, chances are you would have the opportunity to float to other departments as you are working there. Plus, the VA has excellent benefits--their retirement program is very good. The amount of paid leave per year is also a huge plus.

One drawback to the VA is that we all know there are good ones and bad ones. If the one you are applying to has a bad reputation than it might be a bad experience.

I'm sure you'll do great know matter what you choose. :)
