Hello,

Anyone know where I can find assistance for a nursing career. I am 23 years old and my goal is to be a nurse. I currently work 2 jobs 7 days a week, so I don't have the money nor the time to go to school. My parents are willing to let me stay with them while I got to school, however I still have bills to pay! Anyone know where I can find assistance besides financial aid?

I don't know what city you're in, but you can get help from the community colleges that are close to you. Do a search on them to find their websites and all the information you need is probably right there at your fingertips. If they have nursing programs, there will be information on the steps you need to take to get enrolled and also financial aid information. You mentioned having two jobs. Lots of colleges make most of their courses available to take online, so you can "go to school" while sitting at home behind your computer. These classes cost the same amount of money that you would spend if you were taking them on campus. You can take the prerequisites this way. Of course the actual nursing courses and labs require your physical presence.

When I first started out I found a nursing home that paid me to become a CNA. Then when I felt more confident, I went into the hospital setting. After working for the hospital awhile I was eligible for tutition assistance to futher my career. I am working a 24 hour a week schedule and going to school 20 hours a week but the hospital is paying all the costs for me to get my LPN! All it will cost me is 2 years after graduation of working at this hospital. Small price to pay for "free "education. Tho this may not be an ideal solution to your problem, it is in my case since I am a single mom of two. Again, best of luck and keep your chin up!

What kind of assistance are you looking for?

If you go to a university program, you may be able to get loans to cover your expenses as well as your tuition.

Also, because of the present nursing shortage, there are loans that when you get your RN you can repay just be working in areas that have nursing shortages. ( which to day is almost anywhere!)

You may also want to consider getting your education in the military, which would pay for all of your education,, housing, etc.

Just some suggestions

Talk with your local military recruiters and see if they can work something out for you.

Everyone thankyou for your advice! I am actually taking my pre-recs for the nuring program at a community college. They are difficult with having two jobs! So if I make it out of them alive I will hopefully be in the nursing program next year! But I really want this so I will do it! My only issue now is that I want to get into the field while in school.... I've been on a few interviews and the positions sound good... But the money at that level is a big drop for me! So once I get a little more settled... I hope money will not hold me back anymore! Take care all!
