new RN...very scared and nervous

Im a new grad and im workin on a heme/onc floor. i am so stressed about this position, i feel overwhelmed and useless, i have no confidence what so ever. i want to quit so bad cause of the stress i have. im so nervouse about everthing. i dont know if i picked the right place to start as a new RN. i cry all the time because i dont know if this is the right job for me.

How long have you been working? What about the floor stresses you out? What kind of orientation did you receive? I am a new grad (May 06) and I work in ICU...and felt/feel overwhelmed like you. If you really don't like it, try and job shadow on another unit...maybe there is another floor that you would like better. Good luck and hang in there!!:icon_hug:

I'm sorry. You're in good company. We all get nervous, anxious, overwhelmed and doubt ourselves when we are new to an area, especially that first job. It's a tough stressful profession and sometimes we feel like we're going to crack when we are new. Hang in there and take care of yourself.

It's not normal to "cry all the time", so if you need professional help, go with your employee assistance program. Crying at the end of a stressful day however, is common for new grads, and don't worry about that.
