Can someone help me understand the difference between the s/s of Measles (Rubeola), and Rubella (German Measles)?

My instructor only said that when a kid has Rubella they will not be as sick as they are with Measles. I don't really understand what is meant by that. Both viruses have a maculapapular rash. Is the prodromal symptoms different?

I'm soo confused with all of these communicable diseases and trying to learn the differences, the vaccination schedules, side effects, etc... its driving me nuts!

Here are links to information regarding measles and Rubella (German measles). One may have Rubella and not know it for s/s can be vague/mild. I think that's what your instructor means.

When rubella occurs in a pregnant woman, it may cause congenital rubella syndrome, with potentially devastating consequences for the developing fetus. Children who are infected with rubella before birth are at risk for growth retardation; mental retardation; malformations of the heart and eyes; deafness; and liver, spleen, and bone marrow problems.
