Discussion

Let me know about intravenous in your country.

Hello, I'm RN in Tokyo, Japan.

I'd like to know whether nurses in your country do intravenous injection and retain periphral venous catheter.

In Japan, most of nurses in small hospital can iv and retain periph venous catheter. But in some huge hospital such as University hospital, nurses can't do that. Because some university hospital and national hospital rules don't allow nurse's IV. patients in huge hospital have grave complication, and administrater don't admit nurses IV ability. It's doctor's job. Japanese nursing association is considering about allowing Clinical nurse specialists et al do IV.
