I am at a crossroads in my nursing career I have been working as a med surg tell nurse for going on 8 years and more recently feeling burnt out. Feeling a lack of support from Management and surplus of what is expected of nurses. I have just interviewed for case management and emergency room positions and have been offered both. I'm pretty equally interested in both as one is an advancement of clinical skills and the other of the patient coordination learning the background of placement/insurance etc... I'm weighing pros and cons of both. I'm not sure I am ready to give up clinical nursing yet but also with two little kids at home feel like case management may be less stressful. Seeking any suggestions thoughts or advice!

Clinical nursing will always be there... and only get harder. Grab that case management job.

ER probably my most enjoyed area of nursing.

But the 12 hr shifts, holiday compromised....makes me at 69 yr. age &45.5 yrs experience, feel quality of life more important..... I've just accepted a M-F wound care nurse in SNF/LTC....position, by the way my fourth failed attempt at retirement....I get bored at 6-8 weeks not working, Thankyou Jesus it is not about $s

I am a hospital case manager who works occasional PRN shifts as an ER nurse. Case management is very stressful as compared to other speciaties i have worked(Med surg, trauma, level 1 ER, dislysis etc). However, i enjoy being able to coordinate the care for my patients. Case management allows me to have evenings, weekends, and most weekends off to spend wirh my family. I will recommend you choose case management instead of ER if you need to have work life balance.
