just got accepted! very worried about...

i just got accepted for the august 2005 class into an RN program. i'm currently finishing up microbiology and i'm on the verge of not passing. there is a lot of the material that i didnt understand fully. i got the diseases mixed up quite a bit also. as for anatomy and physiology, i got an A in anatomy and a B in physiology but i feel like i dont remember much of either since its been awhile since i've taken them. will this affect me in the nursing program? i would like to take the classes over but the counselor told me if you did not fail or get a D in the class or did not get a W, then you cant take the class over. are we expected to remember all of the material from these classes when u enter the program? or do you learn it again in teh program? tia

In my program they do not focus on the other sciences. We are expected to have a good understanding of anatomy and micro already. Those courses give you a base knowledge that you will need to understand body systems which relate to disease processes, intervention, and treatment protocol. I am finishing my first semster and we have not had to use much A&P or micro yet, but I am sure we will in the future.

We had to use A&P and micro immediately although we used physio the most. For example, we were required to write up the physiology of the disease for every patient we cared for. Anatomy was important in remembering where the place shots without hitting nerves, etc.

Just be sure to get a really good medical dictionary/enclyclopedia so you can look up things you don't remember. It all comes back even if you don't remember it right away.

you can take the class again but not for a grade, you can audit the class which means you go like everyone else but you dont get a grade. Im a student too i'm currently taking micro...try this website http://www.mhhe.com/talaro5 it has quizzes and interactive stuff it helps..!

I can tell you that you will use it, but at our school our instructors do a reveiw on the stuff we need to know. I think as far as your grades go, in our school if you get anything lower then a C in A&P or mirco you could not be accepted to the program. Nursing tests are so different from other tests. To me those grades from A&P and Micro don't mean a whole lot. It's all in how you use your nursing knowledge to answer the nursing question and they are not easy questions at my school. I sure am not trying to scare you, but just giving you and idea on what to expect. So people I know might of got A's in other classes but get B's and C's in nursing school and some who got C's in A&P, would get A's on test or the other way around. It is the critical thinking thats important. I hope that helps. I am in my 3rd semester of a ADN program I will have one more semester left after my test on Tuesday. Good Luck Michele :)

In my class, we did not have a chance to review any Micro... we did a little review of A&P, but mostly you are expected to know the material.

As it had been 7 years since my A&P, I bought the Anatomy and Physiology Coloring Books to brush up on before I started my program. They have a great one for Microbiology too!

If you do get a C, I recommend viewing and reviewing the material,,, maybe save your text book too,,, until you are more comfortable with it. Did you tape lectures? This would be a big help too.

Good luck!

no i didnt tape the lectures i wish i did! i never had to w/ any other class but i noticed others in this class tape him and come to think of it, thats very smart because he doesnt right a lot of stuff down and he talks very fast at times. its also very crowded to get a front seat so every other day of lecture i get a far back seat because i ahve lab right b4 class so the other labs get all the good seats. hard to hear him at times. i plan on getting a recorder and taping the nursing lectures. hope it will help me. so nervous

Oh! Taping the lectures got me through Micro, and a B to boot! I had a really difficult time with that class. I did great in the Lab, but I had to work at the tests. Don't know what I would've done without my recorder.

Nursing school is a little different. You need to listen to the lectures to go along with the notes, but then you gotta put them away and study NCLEX questions. I usually only listen to them once and sometimes I skip a day if its real slow material... like Nutrition.

Anyway, try the coloring book and save your text!

They had better review the A&P stuff at my CC because it has been 2 1/2 to 3 years for EVERYONE since they took the classes. (Serious wait list!)
