So, as you can probaby tell from my last post, I am not an RN yet (I apply this month) but I am interested in being a SANE.
Obviously, I imagine it's a hard field and can be emotional. I'm curious (in preparation for what I would be getting into)...
What is the worst thing you've seen while being a SANE (or even before being certified)?
As always, thanks in advance for any help/insight given.

All the scenarios of people (men, women, and children) being sexually assaulted are extremely disturbing. I don't know that any of us SANEs really want to relive these stories even by retelling them. But, the thing that bothers me the most is seeing the injuries, especially anal bruising and swelling after someone has been rectally assaulted. We use colposcopy to get good photodocumentation of injuries.

I'm sure you can imagine. I really don't think it's appropriate to recount such cases for other people's interest.
I can imagine it's horrific. The NP I work with did a sexual assault course and said she couldn't finish it because of what she saw (I wonit repeat it, but it involved a 3 month old baby).
It's things like these that make me question if I could actually handle this. It seems waaaaayyy intense and just unbelievable that someone can DO that to another human being. But, on the other hand, I think it would be a way to help out victims by really taking care of them and helping through such a difficult time.
I apologize - I wasn't trying ot be invasive or "sick" (at least, I hope it didn't come off that way)...
