Hi,

I was wondering, if you work 36hrs/wk as an RN to you get paid for 40 generally? I think I read that somewhere but was just curious if this was true. thanks

You usually get paid the same hourly salary whether you work 3 12 hour shifts or 5 8 hour shifts. So now, you don't get paid for 40 hours if you're working 36. But you are considered fulltime and will be eligible to receive fulltime benefits.

At my hospital you get paid for 36 hours when you work three 12 hr shifts a week ---- you do get full time benefits though, so that is nice. I think most of the places that I've heard of are the same way.

There are some hospitals offering great incentives for weekend work. You must commit to work a certain number of weekends per year. At my hospital, if you work 22 out of 26 weekends, you get $7.00 more per hour, plus weekend differential and shift differential. Nurses can work two 12 hrs shifts per weekend, or three 12 hour shifts per weekend.

Please let me know where this is! You can em or pm me with the info. I might be returning to Chicago if the planets are aligned and something of a miracle were to happen in my personal life. This kind of deal sounds like something to look in to. I prefer 3 12s, it's the perfect combo of enough pay and time off.

i read on some thread (i think in one of IL's forums) that the university of chicago hospitals does pay you for 40 hrs if you work 3 12s. Definitely something i want to look into!

U of C only pays you for 36 hours if you worked 36 hours- I just finished an assignment there.
