Will prisons hire a board ordered nurse

My nursing license was suspended and is now on probation after self reporting narcotic diversion. I was never criminally charged. I completed treatment for substance abuse disorder. Would it be worthwhile to consider applying for a corrections nurse position or would i be automatically disqualified?

If you are still under a monitoring contract I would say your chance of being hired into the corrections system would be slim. May I suggest you try psych nursing. Most psych hospitals do not require RNs to pass meds and they are generally more forgiving and understanding where board orders are concerned.

……..and who knows, you might just like it.

I have the same thought as hppy. Given that this is a drug issue, and you have admitted to diverting controlled substances, your chances of being hired into a specialty in which background checks are a big deal don't seem great. The fact that you weren't criminally charged does not diminish the incident(s). It is more a function of your employer choosing not to pursue criminal charges than anything about the actions themselves.
