Earlier this year I was caught diverting narcotics and fired after an investigation. It was a difficult time in my life and take full responsibility for my actions and am grievously regretful for what I did. I never withheld meds from my patients. I diverted meds that were to be wasted.
Not only did I lose my job, but I put my family in turmoil. We all lost our insurance and I have one child that has a serious condition. We weren't able to pay our bills and fell into deep debt. I know that a lot of you know this story.
The thing is that I knew I had a problem and asked my husband for help. We found an inpatient facility and was set to enter it after I finished working my pay period. I was confronted on my last shift before my leave of absence was to start and the day before I was already scheduled to go to rehab.
I have been clean since rehab and desperately want to work as a nurse again.
After a grievance process with my union, my employer agreed to make me eligible to apply for a job that fit my stips and keeping my seniority.
The BON of my state offered my a contract to work with stips for 5 years. However, they wanted me to pay for the drug screens and join a very expensive impaired professionals group and being out of work and in debt. I absolutely could not come up with the funds.
I had a license in another state and applied for nursing jobs that did not involve handling narcotics so that I could support my family and remove any chance of relapse. My license the state that offered me the contract has still not posted any actions to my license after almost 6 months and my license there has expired.
So, my question is this: Will the original state continue with an action against my license even if it is expired and if they do, will the other state be notified. Am I fooling myself that I can change states and get a fresh start?

The only advice I can give you is be honest. My story starts out just like yours. I pray your career and life in general does not take the same path as I did. I'm living my worst F ing nightmare.

i feel almost certain that the state in which you are working will become privy to the issue in the original state & will then place you in a monitoring program. if they don't first punish you for working when you knew there was an unresolved issue in the original state. i totally understand why you are doing this, but, yes, it most likely will come back around & bite you in the a**. best of luck, & keep us posted!
