Ive been involved with real estate for about 5 years now and i have to say that i really enjoy the field. But unfortunately now with the ugly economy, real estate has not been so good, and I think I speak for others as well, so ive decided to do something completely different... NURSING !
I just wanted to see if anyone else has given up their fields to change to nursing.
Goal: Plan on becoming an LVN then RN.

I was a sales manager and switched to nursing in 2005... The funny thing is I just read an article about the top jobs that "anyone" can get and make over $100,000, sales manager was on the list and NOT nursing... I think they need to reevaluate their research because I make over 2xs what I did before!!! Ha! Anyway, its a great time to make the switch. Good luck!

ME!
My original degree is a BSW. I did that for a while, and then decided that the 70+ hours per week for $30K per year was....ummmm....stupid.
Now I have a BSN, and make considerably more than that, with the potential to make a LOT more than that....while still serving a population I LOVE. A total win-win. I love my job, AND I can put my kids through college. :w00t:

I was in the tech industry (project management, sales, technical support, programming, client training, etc) as well as some office management/billing/"girl friday" kinda stuff before going to nursing school. Unfortunately since the dot com burst things just continually went down hill and I ended up making $10 an hour (almost half of what I made previously) and having a serious issue finding work so it was no longer worth while.

I was a political science/international affairs major, heading to law school. Then I realized how much I hate going to an office everyday. Now I'm an ED nurse.
I'm going to be a realtor; residential properties to start. I have a great mentor, and would like to eventually expand into other areas or possibly be a broker. What do you think? Any ideas of what you liked in real estate? Thanks!!:wink2:

Residental real estate is very cyclical so there are years when you will make great money and years when you don't. I didn't like selling RE because I felt that most people were very unrealistic about how much their money would buy and most wanted something really fancy. That said what I loved about it and am forever thankful for is the first hand opportunities I found to purchase properties. Since I knew the market I was comfortable buying a house within a few minutes of walking inside and that scored me quite a few good buys.
well ive worked for a broker my the whole time i was in RE. When RE was booming it was great, but now since the economy is doing so bad, no one really wants to talk to any type of RE person. Majority of people are looking to purchase homes now, and with that said, that bad side of it is that the banks are so strict with all their guidelines that its very tough to get an approval. They have to have reserves, great fico, a very low Debt to income ratio etc... I just see nursing as guaranteed money, whether economy is doing great or not, as an RN, you will still be clearing about 10k without a problem.
