hello all,
i am a new grad starting orientation in 2 weeks in a busy (90,000 visits) er. i have been using a prestige double tube stethoscope for 2 years during nursing school. i am aware that many medical professionals use littmann stethoscopes. although they are pricy, i have no problem purchasing one if necessary. do you think that i should invest in a littmann or is the prestige sufficient enough for the er? also, which do you prefer to use as an er nurse, single tube or double tube stethoscope?
any advice is appreciated!!!!
thank you in advance,
cherry

Cherry, even though I am not an ED nurse, i am a new one like yourself. What I have found is the two tube scopes don't work well for many, but for those it does work for, people love it. I bought a low end Littmann (the select) which works great. i just replaced the earpieces and it is comfortable. I used the cardiology III in school, but it is just too heavy to keep with me all the time. I have seen Prestige making good scopes though (the Clinical I is half the price of Littmanns, but worth its weight in gold).
