Where to start?!

Published

Hello everybody! I'm looking to get started on getting my RN degree (after being a LPN 17yrs!) and just don't know where to start. It's overwhelming :***:with all the different information I keep finding and I'm just not sure how to sort through it all. I live in Tennessee and appreciate any information/guidance that could be provided. Thank you all in advance

Well, first things first. Contact any college online or in person to find out what general education requirements are needed. Most places require A&P, Microbiology, a college-level math course, Life Span Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Psychology, and English 1101. These are just for starters. If you've had any of them, you would need to apply to one or more places to have you transcripts evaluated for a accurate view of what is needed. Your sciences have to be no older than 5 years in order to be given credit, and your grades will need to be a C or better. But call and speak to an admissions advisor to get a baseline idea of what you can expect. Then you can start shopping around for the best avenue as far as costs, timeline for completion, WHETHER OR NOT YOUR STATE'S BOARD OF NURSING WILL ACCEPT THE PROGRAM FOR WHATEVER REASON, your future goals with possibly continuing on for a BSN and/or MSN, and whether or not they will accept your ASN credits (usually the sciences are an issue regarding lab content).

That's all I can think of for now...
