When to start studying for Nclex?

Published

Hi everyone! I am entering my second/senior year of nursing school. When should I start really studying for the nclex? I still have a lot of information to learn (taking med surg 1 and 2 this year and OB/psych) so should I just wait until almost graduation time to start or should I plug away at it now? I have the Saunder book and I was going to do Uworld closer to the test time

Thanks!

I would say it's never too early to start. Some of the practice books have good sample questions which a few were actually on my test at nursing school as well

At most schools, 3rd semester is the hardest. I know during my third semester there was absolutely no room for any kind of studying other than studying for medsurg, pharm, and OB/Ped's tests. During my 4th semester of school, we had a class called "transition to practice" which was solely for NCLEX studying. We were required to do a minimum of 50 Saunder's questions per week, but we could do more for extra credit. I did not really start studying for NCLEX until the Monday after I graduated. Took the test 25 days after initiating studying. I used UWorld exclusively and passed in 75 questions. Study time will vary for everyone and it's hard to say what will be best for you! But I can say that if you use UWorld, it's best to use it as a short term study tool (1-2 months of use).

Thank you for your insight! I am taking med surg this semester along with psych. My 4th semester is med surg and OB. Maybe I'll wait until I'm finished. I'm hoping to take the test fault soon after graduating.
