When do you start to look for job?

Published

I wonder when do you start to look for job and send your applications? I am graduating by May, should I start to look into job opportunities from now on and send out my applications? Or, should I wait until pass the NCLEX?

Any input is truly appreciated.

Look now! Make of list of hospitals that you see postings you will qualify for once you graduate. As time goes on you will begin to cross hospitals off. Research the residencies offered and contact the recruiter. I did that probably three months before I graduated and when I came in for actual interview months later she remembered my emails:). Apply after you graduate and before NCLEX. All my friends hired from my clinical group did this and so did I. Use your time in preceptorship to network!

Over where I live some hospitals have deadlines that are coming up soon for their Grad Nurse Residency programs that are being held in July, August, or October (depending on the hospital) already in February and some leave their application dates open until June for May 2012 graduates. I applied to all of the hospitals around my area that offer them earlier this month. I was told by a family friend who is works HR at one of the hospitals (not a nurse recruiter) that I definitely need to apply by now, so I am glad I did. It is different depending on your area and hospital of course!! If I were you I would definitely start looking at the least and possibly start applying soon if they allow it. Good luck! :)

I say look now to get an idea of where you would like to work... if they think its too soon b/c you haven't sat for NCLEX then that's okay. Just keep applying to get your name out there. I was able to land an interview and hired two weeks before I graduated and I just had to wait for a start date until I passed boards. There are jobs out there, just be persistent! Good luck :yeah:
