Hey there nursing students. Congrats to all who have passed. Thank you everyone for all your hints. And good luck to everyone else who are nursing students who are close to graduation and scared to take their NCLEX like me.
I will graduate in December and I know its never to soon to start reviewing and doing practice questions which I have been doing in my spare time. Everyone tells me that Kaplan is worth the effort and the money. I am considering taking this program, but I was wondering when is it a good time to take the Kaplan? Should I take it while I am in nursing school or when I am out and graduated?

hey welcome there!
you will find this places to be so awsome!
a lot of support and a whole lot information!
so you will be done in decemeber huh? awsome!
time is going to fly really fast!
regarding kaplan, i suggest taking it right after you graduate. i don't know about your college but i know that with mine a representative came on our campus in the 4th semester and gave us information about kaplan. and if you sign up with them on campus you get a discount.
now i'm trying to remember:uhoh21: but with the discount i paid $425 and originally its about $500 buck a roo's! it's pricey but it does help you with nclex strategies. they teach how to read into the question and show you things avoid and how to analyze the answers.
with the package that i got from our school it came with the nclex kaplan book. you have 4 months access to questions called qbank and there are about 3,000 questions to answer depending on the topic you want to take. it breaks it down for you. and as well you have access to videos with instructors that go over the topics in the book. so when i did the videos i open my book and read and write anything that was important the instructor in the video had to say. you can go over the videos as many times as you want.
after that you have video questions, that go by topic by topic. the instructor in the video goes by question by question and you answer along. but the good thing about the video questions is that is analyzes the question and analyses the answer with rationales.
it also was another video with how to use a cane, walker, crutches, chest tubes and other things as well.....cant remember at the top of my head:chuckle
then you have the 7 question trainers that you do and it gives you a percentage of overall your scores.
i took the nclex yesterday.......and yeah it was not easy.....it was extremely challenging. but i can tell you that for sure and i know that my fellow friends here at allnurses.com can say that the nclex style questions are very similar to kaplan style.
so when to take kaplan? i suggest you sign up in the 4th semester and take a break one or 2 weeks and take the kaplan. they offer kaplan on location, depending where you live. it's a 2 week class and you go on campus and review questions and show you the strategies.
i recommend it. and if "in case" you "dont pass" no worries.....just do it over. kaplan will offer you the class again with online access free again.....depending on the plan that you get.
but take it after you graduate. you have to much to work on right now in your 4th semester.
good luck my friend and well to the club!!! :grpwlcm:

Dear nursegreeneyes,
Congrats on your passing. And thank you for your suggestions for the Kaplan. I will definately take the course after I graduate. I heard from many its one of the best programs, and I want to be able to pass the first time around. Well good luck to you in your nursing career as a RN.
