When giving up is not a option

Hello I live in baltimore md and I have a criminal record I want to go to school for nursing and my charge is a second degree assault so many people have been telling me its not possible the school I plan on attending has to give me a backround check first before they can give me the ok to attend. This charge is about 6 years old. If anyone from md or has information that can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I tried to get it expunged but I was told I couldnt.

Your best bet is to contact the BON directly. You may be able to get I to a program no problem. But what matters is if you can get licensed with the BON. You can call or email and they can advise. Each case is different.

Try to get it sealed...regardless the BON in can do an FBI check and still see your charges it is up to the board on how they will proceed...there are nurses out there with felonies...be encouraged

Like the other posters have said, try to get insight from your BON. Sometimes they may give you some information. If they won't, try contacting Deans or DON at numerous colleges in the state and ask if they have had a student with that charge and if they were granted licensure. There is also an option to check with your BON about the disciplinary action taken against nurses who get convicted or have past convictions of assault charges. Good luck! Im in nursing school with 2 theft misdemeanors and am feeling the anxiety about licensure. You will always wonder if you don't try now.
