When to ask for vacation time?

I just started my first RN job (non hospital) in November. I would like sometimes off around Christmas time. I will have enough PTO accumulated by then. The thing is I work M-F, and just started this job. I am just wondering how would you feel if you were my supervisor. I haven't brought it up to her yet because I wasn't sure if it would make a bad impression by asking time off so early on. Thanks!

Most workplaces have a policy defining these things... for example how soon you can use PTO (even if you start accumulating from day one), and also many have policies which apply specifically to the holidays (who can take time off and when). I don't see why it should be a problem to inquire about the policies regarding PTO.

Good luck and hope you get your days off :-)

Agree with PP. Also, many departments have their own 'rules' for allocating holiday time off such as rotating holidays so no one has to work 2 Christmases in a row. Refer to the policies & talk to your manager.

I work in government, so I get all the holidays off, including Christmas.

Check you policy. We aren't allowed to to take vacation during holiday weeks. And some places, like mine, have a certain time you can sign up for time off.
