When did you apply to the BON?

Hi All!

I'll be graduating with my BSN at the end of April. I'm wondering when I should start filling out my paperwork with the state BON. Do I need to wait until I graduate and my school is ready to send my transcripts? Or do I do all the BON paperwork ahead of time and then have my school send the transcripts after graduation?

Also, I'm planning to move to either Colorado or Oregon after graduation. But I don't know where I'll be able to find a job. Is there any reason I can't apply to both state BONs and have two licenses? That way I'll be good to go wherever I find a job first.

Way ahead of time. NCSBN has guidelines, but it really depends what SBON you are applying to.

We applied in our capstone course. I live in a different state than I attended school in so o discussed with our Dean which state I should apply to. She advised me to appply in the state that the school was in and then seek a license in my home state (I live on the state line so I could have ended up with a job on either side).

She said that it would be easier that way because some states have different guidelines for schooling requirements. She told a story of a student from another state that went back home to test and had issues with her local BON because they were unfamiliar with our schools curriculum.

If if you are not sure where you will wind up it may be easier to seek approval and test where you live now and then transfer your license.
