What type of nurse to be?????

Published

I would like to know what the difference is between and RN and an LPN. I am planning on taking courses at my local college and am unsure of which way to go. Is there a greater need for one vs. the other? What are the salary differences between them? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Basically both care for patients and are responsible for their care and practice under their own license. With an RN more doors are open in terms of practice areas. RN can supervise LPNs, and LPNs can supervise unlicensed personnel and can be charge nurses on their unit (usually long term care).

Neither is better than the other, but each have different scopes of practice. Check with your state's board of nursing as to to the specific scope of practice. Then decide which area is best for you.

good luck to you in your studies and welcome!
