What to do!?

I need advice... I'm now a senior nursing student, graduate in May. I live in Greenville now, grew up near Hickory. My problem? I don't know where the heck to go after graduation!!! The hospital here in Greenville has been mostly good to me. I love the learning opportunities it's given me, and know as a teaching hospital, I'll learn so much. I am also considering Craven, because I do like the feel of a smaller hospital, and really want to be closer to the beach (would live in Jacksonville if I did that...better shopping and beach, and eye candy!). I've considering going back to Hickory. I wouldn't be near the beach, which is a bummer, because I love it! However, I would be near my parents, which would mean a lot to them. The hosptial in Hickory (Catawba Valley Medical Ctr) was one of the first magnet hosptials in NC, and was awesome to me as a teenager when I was a volunteer there. My other option is to go to Charlotte (or commute from a smaller town near there, don't think I could live in a big city). I've received material from Carolina's Medical Center, and have liked what I see (esp cardiology and ED).

Questions, Comments, Concerns? IDEAS? Help me! If you work at any of the above, or live there, I would truely appreciate your input! -Andrea

I think the first thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of nursing you want to do. There are good hospitals all over this state, it just depends on what your long-term goals are.

Do not work at **** if you want to paid for your hard work. You will be overworked, underpaid and unsupported from your management. I have been there for four years and since completing my BSN this month, have decided to travel. Beleive me I have caught hell for anouncing my possible departure, threats, trash talk and other unfortunate events. The beach is great, Charlotte is for NASCAR and rednecks, Wilmington is great - New Hanover.

If I worked at ****, I would be in CIU. It's been the only area so far that I've enjoyed, and even then I didn't care for certain parts of it (RN's who sat in their pod and blabbered loudly about patients in that pod, talking about them waiting to die...HELLO!). But, compared to some of the general med/surg floors there, it's a heaven. Want to work there or ED, but not ED and ****...did EMS work, don't like a lot of personalities I saw there (MD's, RN's and EMT's). I think I've kicked ***** out. I love the area, but they've been on a kick of hiring BSN's, and to be honest, I don't care for most of the BSN grad's I met so far. I'm so glad I left *** for the comm. college! -Andrea
