My regular office nurse is on vacation so they send another nurse who happens to be the supervisor for all the clinic nurses , silly me thought she knew peds protocol. After seeing pt after pt this morning no hr no rr on vs I thought did she just forget. So i asked her about it after doing it and charting them. Oh she said I did not have a stethoscope. Uh duh just venting

It never seems to amaze me what people think they can get by with. Who would think it's alright to work up a patient to be seen without getting basic vitals. That HR, respiratory rate, etc. are important parts of the overall clinical picture and can tell us a lot about the patient before we even go in the room sometimes. Also, last time I checked you can get a heart rate and respirations without a stethoscope, and if you really feel like you need one, I'm sure someone has one she could borrow!! Jeez. Feel free to vent. I did a clinical rotation at one office and I'm not sure that some of the staff were really trained at all!!!!!

I was stunned when she told me that and angry also. I don't have a problem if my nurse comes and says hey i had a problem with this b/p or gee this seems off can you double check but too just not do it because you don't have a stethoscope you don't need one. Thanks for letting me vent
