What Should I Do??????

This is my third year in school, my first semester at a four year, from just spending two years at a two year. I have taken A&P 1 and 2, which i got a C in both, Chem 1 and 2 which i got a C in one and a B in the other. Now I just got to take micro and stats. But the problem is my gpa, it is horribly LOW (I failed a couple of classes so my gpa just dropped to a 2.0).. Now should I continue and try to take a & p over, and maybe some easy classes, or should I just give up? But keep in mind that my school looks at gpa, net scores, and interviews, so I might be in luck, but also there are only like 40 seats open each semester....

I would keep on fighting if this is truly what you want to do. However, you need to seriously sit down and figure out why you are doing so poorly in your classes. Is it because you have too much "other stuff" going on in your life? Are you putting other priorities over your school? Or is it just that you don't have a knack for the sciences? Perhaps it is your study habits? Whatever the problem is, I think you need to sit down and figure it out. I would definitely re-take your classes that you got C's in. It will definitely prolong your entrance into the program, but it is worth it. If you have near a 2.0 in your pre-req's, nursing school will pull you through the mud and probably end up winning the battle.

So my overall advice is to figure out why you are doing poorly and take steps to remedy that.

I agree with sistermike. Nursing schools are extremely competitive such that even with a gpa of 3.2, some schools are turning away applicants because there are more applicants who have 3.5 and above. You may not even get an interview with a gpa of 2.0!

Are you working, raising a family or have other time obligations preventing you from doing your best in your classes? Are you going to the study sessions, meeting with the TA's and understanding WHY you are getting questions wrong? Are you going over your lecture notes after class and studying them so you understand them? Are you making a study plan and sticking to it? If you think the pre-reqs are difficult, you will be completely blown away by the nursing school classes like patho, pharm and med/surg!

I would take a real hard look at your present situation and ask yourself if you really want to become a nurse AND what you are going to do now to succeed in your classes. "C"'s are not going advance you far. Good luck!
