Im a biology major right now and my gpa is around a 2.5. I will be graduating soon with my bs but I was considering nursing. I failed a couple science classes (gen chem 1 non nursing) and retook them with passing grades. I wanted to know, since the majority of nursing schools take 'points' off of your chances of being admitted, will they take points off of the non-nursing science classes that i failed in or is it solely on nursing classes (such as microbiology for nursing) etc? Also since I retook a couple classes, will the cumulative gpa only look at the retaken class or both the failed and the retaken class when calculating?
Thanks!!

I've only gone to school in Arizona and South Dakota, but in both of those places if you retake a class (exactly the same prefix and number) it completely replaces your previous grade. It might have an * showing that you did retake it, but your old grade is gone.

They should certainly look only at the retaken grade. If you have troubles don't be afraid to take your concerns to the academic counselor and even the dean if you have to! Lots of people do and it def benefits them! Fight for what you want! It shows good character, drive and motivation!

Moving to Pre-Nursing Student forum for more targeted responses. Best of luck.
