What did your friends major in?

Personally, I think there is so much more opportunity in nursing than 30 years ago, when I was a student nurse. I worked for many years at the hospital where I trained. Yes, I am a lowly diploma nurse and (shock, horror) never had any desire to go back to school. But I also did several years in home health, discharge planning, supervised home health aides in facility with about 100 elderly residents, worked for a health insurance company (really an eye-opener and totally different view of the industry), worked in a small hospital in Alaska on the Arctic Ocean. Now I'm in a small hospital in Bay of Islands, New Zealand. I've worked with more nurses from around the world since being in New Zealand! Nursing can take you so many places! I've never really envied my friends who went into different areas or changed careers, but I think I have been very lucky to be able to find so many different things to try. I'm in my 50's and if things would change, I would really look into traveling and working internationally.

deleted since the OP was completely edited and changed from the questions originally asked, and my post no longer pertains to it at all :|

Sorry, not a nurse, still a student, I didn't realize the question was for ONLY nurses. I know a lot of nurses, and when I said fellow nurse I meant same career path I have chosen.

Edited to add;

Oh geeez, I just rechecked your first post because all it was originally asking was what were some of the other majors your friends had and and if they liked it, and I wish I would have quoted it in my original reply, because now your original post is edited to a completely different post and it makes my first reply look like I posted in a wrong topic.

Thank You!

One friend majored in computers, and is now selling real estate because her consulting career required too much travel and she wanted to have kids. She is also a deacon in the local church. Last I heard she wasn't very happy.

Another majored in graphic design. She is now a detective with the local police department. She is married to another cop and they have two kids She loves her job, and seems pretty happy with the choices she has made in life.

Another one majored in fine arts, and is a SAHM. She is miserable, but then she always was.

One of my friends from high school majored in filmic writing at USC. She is a writer and director of independent films. I managed to land a speaking part in one of her movies a few years ago, which I have not seen yet (still in post-production, I think).

I am an attorney now. Changed careers in '08, but thinking of changing back. I'd love to be able to do both, or find a job that allows me to combine experience gained from both careers.
