Hello fellow nurses!
I recently accepted a new position in a family practice office and was wondering if any fellow LPN/LVN can let me know what their day to day is like and what I should expect on my first day. I have only ever had experience in LTC/geriatrics so I am very nervous for what to expect. Also do they give you any type of training on the floor or EMR before making you start rooming patients/triage etc...? I’m so nervous! I’ve been a nurse for almost 3 years now but still feel like such a newbie ?
thanks!

I have not worked in a doctor's office in close to 15 years, but I can tell you what I did. I did family medicine for a few years, then moved to peds. In family med I did intake of patients, of course, taking vitals, asking about med and allergy changes and rooming patients. I called patients with normal lab results. Order charts the doctor needed (we were all paper charts still, so this will probably not be applicable to you). I assisted in any procedure. I chaperoned and assisted during pap and other female exams. I cleaned and set up the room between patients. My doctor did in office flexible sigmoidoscopies, so I setup for the exam, assisted with exam, and had to clean the scopes. I gave ordered injections of medication and vaccines, gave ordered PO meds and did breathing treatments. I also did ear washes occasionally. I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of anything at the moment.
