What is the demand for forensic nurses?

Hello all,

This is my first post in this particular forum so I apologize if this question has been asked many times.

Forensic nursing has always been an area of interest to me. But it always seemed to me that the demand would be relatively low. Does it just depend on the area you live in?

I have wondered the same thing. I have thought this specialty would be very interesting but I'm reluctant to seriously consider it because of the job outlook. I don't have any solid research but the only two people I've known who worked in forensic nursing worked at the county medical examiner's office. Neither of them worked there for more than 2 years. There don't seem to be a ton of positions out there and I'm from a very large urban city. But maybe I just don't know what else is out there.

Most of the nurses I know are SANE and work in the ED of their respective hospitals.

I have contact with a few Forensic Nurses who work with the Medical Examiner's office.

Yes, it is area dependent and many create their own positions within their hospitals.

Good luck to you.
